James Jackson Jeffries, aka "The Boilermaker," was a world heavyweight boxing champion known for his enormous strength and powerful left hook. His trainer, Tommy Ryan (former welterweight and middleweight champion), is credited with teaching him how to fight out of a crouch with his left arm extended forward. In this position, his body seemed to easily absorb extreme punishment while he wore down his opponents.
